Londres-Paris. Southern Railway. Chemins de fer de l’État, 6 services par jour. Paris St-Lazare–Londres by Roger de Valerio (1930) is a classic Art Deco travel poster celebrating the effortless dash between two world capitals. Designed at the height of the interwar travel boom, it captures the romance and speed of modern rail, pairing France’s Chemins de fer de l’État with Britain’s Southern Railway to promise frequent, streamlined journeys across the Channel.
This listing is for a fine art reproduction, meticulously printed on your choice of acid-free archival paper or luxurious artist’s cotton canvas. The Unique Maps Co. offers multiple sizes to suit your space, with optional conservation-grade framing. Personalization is available too—add a custom caption, date, or dedication, and choose finishes that harmonize with contemporary, mid-century, or eclectic interiors.
Roger de Valerio—born Roger Laviron in Lille—was among France’s most inventive poster artists. Trained in architecture at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he brought a designer’s discipline to his bold, graphic advertising work. Across the 1910s–1930s he shaped the visual language of modern publicity, serving as art director, illustrator, and advisor to leading publishers and ateliers, all while refining a sleek, instantly legible style.
The subject of this poster is the storied Paris–London route, linking Paris Saint-Lazare with London via Southern Railway connections and cross-Channel steamers. In an era when travel symbolized progress and cosmopolitan ease, six daily services meant Parisian boulevards and London’s theatres were only hours apart. The image carries that optimism—international exchange, elegant efficiency, and the thrill of motion—making it a compelling piece for anyone who has lived, loved, or lingered in either city.
Visually, the composition is pure Art Deco: dynamic diagonals, disciplined geometry, and crisp, sans-serif typography integrated with image. Deep blue fields ground the design, while energizing reds and inky blacks slice across the surface like rails, funnels, and shadows, guiding the eye from bold headline to sleek train silhouettes. Flat planes of color and clean edges emphasize speed and clarity, turning information into art. It’s a striking centerpiece for a hallway, office, or living room—especially in spaces that celebrate travel or industrial-chic design.
A thoughtful gift for globe-trotters, new homeowners, design lovers, and collectors of railway memorabilia, this timeless poster reproduction suits occasions from Christmas to birthdays, Father’s or Mother’s Day, housewarmings, or as a nostalgic memento for anyone just back from Paris, London, or a Channel crossing.
