Belted Kingfisher, first published in 1827, is one of the exquisitely detailed bird illustrations from John James Audubon's monumental work, Birds of America. This particular plate captures the majesty and precision of the Belted Kingfisher, a bird observed through meticulous study by Audubon.
And now, for the first time in almost 200 years, you can acquire a pristine, personalized art print of Belted Kingfisher. This print will be meticulously crafted at The Unique Maps Co. workshop using thick archival matte paper, ensuring it remains vibrant and wrinkle-free for decades.
John James Audubon is renowned for his extraordinary contributions to ornithology and natural history. Born in 1785, he documented America's avian life with an artistic flair that was both scientifically precise and aesthetically overwhelming. His Birds of America consists of 435 hand-colored prints, yet very few copies remain accessible today, most safeguarded by significant libraries and institutions.
The original life-size pages of Audubon's work allowed him to convey immense detail in his illustrations. The Belted Kingfisher (Ceryle alcyon) showcases Audubon's ability to depict not only the bird’s intricate plumage but also its natural habitat, creating a snapshot that is both beautiful and educational. The bird is particularly interesting due to its unique flight patterns and distinct coloring, with vivid blues and contrasting whites.
This fine art print of Belted Kingfisher would be an exceptional addition to any home, offering a splash of historical and natural beauty. It also makes a thoughtful and unique gift for occasions like Christmas, Father's Day, Mother's Day, housewarming, or as a memorable departing gift for a colleague.
